GRIEF AND THE HOLIDAYS
THE CARNIVAL OF EMOTION

The Holidays intensify what is already going on inside of us.
They present us with a bitter-sweet mixture of memories of past, present realities, and future anticipations.
The Holidays are a Carnival of Emotion.
Joy-filled recollections, unresolved griefs, anticipated reunions, festering hurts, spiritual euphoria, existential angst- all play a part in the “Holiday Hype”. Secular and spiritual extremes may lift us to the heights of ecstasy and plunge us to the depths of despair sometimes in the same moment.
The truth is that the Scriptures and other stories that spawned the Holidays are themselves bitter-sweet, a contrast between darkness and light.
The Holidays (Holy Days) truly are “A time to mourn and a time to dance. A time to laugh and a time to weep”.
How we navigate emotions is, I believe, at the heart of the Christian journey.
These classes are designed to help us explore together how embracing bitter and the sweet, darkness and light, can help us fully experience God in Christ in the precious Holiday season of the year.
